Thanksgiving is officially over, marking the beginning of a holiday considered the “most wonderful time of the year.” I’ll be “decking the halls” and “riding in a wonderland of snow” very soon as we make our annual trek up to the great white North. Until then I’ll be engaging in a flurry of holiday activity from an evening at the Nutcracker Ballet, to intimate cocktail parties with close friends. However, the holiday never truly begins until the decorations come out, and the tree is trimmed. And there lies my dilemma. I’ve always been more of a traditionalist in my Christmas decor, but that changed a few weeks ago when I went to the Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles-“Home For the Holidays Showhouse.” A  stunning space designed by Mallory Mathison Glenn was enveloped in teal and a rich green down to the bows on the Christmas wreaths. The room overflowing with eye-popping details from a “champagne stool” to charming whimsical touches such as a handwritten Christmas list on a vintage desk (who doesn’t believe)? A perfect blend of updated chic with the traditional feel of Chinoiserie. It’s this unexpected pairing of color that has me dreaming outside the Christmas box of all things red, green and blue.

Barbara Howard’s room was a masterpiece of color and a skillful blending of unique pieces and one of a kind art. Showstopping furnishings created impactful vignettes from a bench running the length of one wall to a daybed centered in the middle of the room, a modern day take on a Moroccan tent. Plush, and oh so chic.

Although, the house hadn’t officially opened until the next day, I was able to spend an afternoon leisurely walking through the spectacular showhouse (or small castle perhaps?) thanks to Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. I was front row watching an astonishing array of talent as they put finishing touches on rooms that were already decked out in high holiday style. From John Oetgen as he placed heirloom glasses on a dining table to Lindsey Coral Harper fluffing pillows in an adjacent room. So if you don’t live in the Atlanta area, well…you’re in luck because I’ll be sharing the spaces over the next few weeks. Colorful fabrics added an unexpected punch. A long bench runs the length of one wall and creates a unique seating area, plumped up with eye-catching pillows.

Since leopard is considered a color in the world of design, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that it works so well with virtually any pattern.
