Last week I was able to get organized (a little bit) before jetting off to NYC, my second home away from home. The city never sleeps and unfortunately the same could be said for me. I flew in just in time for the Preview Party on March 19th for DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation for Fighting Aids), a guest of a publishing house. Although, the purpose of this trip was a hush-hush meeting, I also wanted to take time to attend one of my favorite home shows-which is hosted by Architectural Digest at Pier 92.

The Preview Party for DIFFA was a dazzling array of perfectly coiffed industry notables and of course dazzling tables installations. Anytime I can wear my vintage Pucci cocktail dress is a good day, and when I can wear it and support a worthy cause it’s an even greater day. So I mingled with other guests and designers while sampling treats from some of NYC’s top restaurants and eateries. Confusing Margaret Russell (Editor-In-Chief for Architectural Digest) for Mary McDonald (Famous Designer) was not one of my stellar moments, and I’ll blame it all on one of the signature cocktails. It was an evening to remember and the table scapes were stunning…I’ll share some of the pictures later in this post. Another trip highlight was staying at The Standard Hotel in the heart of downtown Manhattan with stunning views of the Hudson River. It’s not only an architectural tour de force, but one of the hippest places to stay in the Meat Packing district. With winter (almost) a sad memory for most New Yorkers, I wasn’t able to enjoy much of the roof top, but in the summer it’s hopping and happening. Frosty the Snowman isn’t my idea of the perfect roof-top companion so looks like I’ll be back in the summer with Mr. Sun.

The Architectural Digest Show didn’t disappoint and I’ll share the latest and greatest further down the road, for now I wanted to share some highlights of the DIFFA event and what happens when you bring together internationally celebrated designers with well-known brands…

This blue and white canopied room was designed by Bronson Van Wyck and inspired by the Tartar Tent folly in Montfort-l’ Amaury. What are follies? They are “happy places conceived in the imagination where one can go to escape and daydream.” Which is fitting because the table installations at  DIFFA’s Dining by Design certainly allowed us to do just that…

We are back in town with more design inspiration yet to come, also we’ll be meeting with the head of Wayfair on Wednesday at a Garden Party, I’ll be sharing the details soon…
