Lighting :: Pagoda Lanterns

I have developed an obsession over the past year that positively won’t go away (and it doesn’t happen to be a boy band). It’s the Pagoda Lantern, and we’ve seen it hanging out everywhere from hallways to closets, and over kitchen islands. Quite frankly I think it brings a level of unexpected sophistication to a space. From painted metals in bright colors to burnished brass, companies have reinterpreted East Asian design for the modern day. Imagine this classic Asian shape with it’s tiered roofs suspended from a ceiling.

Although, traditionally Pagoda Lanterns are seen in gardens all over the world they have been reinvented into multi-purpose lighting for the home.  For once I can’t find the words to adequately describe the stunning interpretations that are available in the market place, and since pictures speak a thousand words…

This company is located in Chelsea, Manhattan and is an excellent resource for Decorative Arts. They work with designers, decorators and architects, and they have Pagoda Lanterns.

I’m not sure if this vintage lantern is still available, if not it’s sometimes all about the thrill of the hunt.

Yes, this less pricey version is available in bamboo…

Sometimes you just can’t describe beauty…

There were actually a pair of these, although sadly they were sold. Since they were vintage, it’s still worth scouring antique markets for a similar pair.

This one has been on my radar for quite some time.

Now for those of you who want a luxe look for less, you could purchase this inexpensive lantern, have it lacquered a fabulous shade of red or blue, and then have it wired.
