Yes, It’s reveal time. It’s hard to believe, but Project::Master-bath is finished. P.S. Thanks to those of you who have followed it’s progression down the slippery road of renovation. Well today is the day, and I picked the perfect one because as some of you may know I’m also part of  “The Style It Challenge.” Last fall I was chosen to participate in a “Challenge,” not a contest but a good ole fashioned Challenge. I’m always game until I saw the other participants-Krystine Edwards of “Living Pretty Styled,” Mallory Shaw of “Confetti & Stripes,” Mandy Kellogg Rye of “Waiting on Martha,” and Holly Hollingsworth Phillips of “The English Room.” The “Challengers” were Taylor Burke Home and Cotton & Quill in conjunction with One Kings Lane (you can follow the “Challenge” here) One Kings Lane. We were asked to custom design an X-Bench from Taylor Burke Home www.taylorburkehome.com with fabric from Cotton & Quill www.cottonandquill.com (whose fabrics are simply stunning). So enter our bathroom in partnership with Kohler Co. (www.kohler.com), we needed a resting place by the new standalone tub for my bath salts, magazines and maybe a nice glass of Veuve Cliquot. The perfect spot for my X-Bench, upon which I placed an acrylic tray full of bath-time necessities (choosing a translucent tray so that I could see all the fabulous texture). I chose a medium toned gray hair-on-hide with a chrome base to coordinate with our colour palette and since gray is a neutral it was a seamless marriage of materials. Of course, a consideration was the fact that it would get wet, and hide is virtually waterproof (which is why it also makes a great floor covering).

From the honed limestone floor to the Carrera Marble shower enclosure, the bathroom was designed to be a stylish retreat, pushing the design envelope by using darker flooring to mimic the depths of the ocean, and bringing in dramatic yet whimsical elements like the Fornasetti wallpaper in Aquario. Soothing tones of blue/gray play homage to the changing colours of the sea and sky, and a fabric brings in a graphic element to provide unexpected contrast to the stylized fish swimming across the walls of the separate toilet area. Modern elements bring the newly renovated space up-to-date, the sconces from Kohler along with the contemporary chandelier bring a subtle wow factor to the classic/modern space. The custom tailored vanity cabinets from Kohler in Woolen Oak provide additional warmth and timeless style. The ceiling treatment designed and installed by my husband, brings architectural interest and takes inspiration from the grids of the floor tile. Of course, any space isn’t truly complete without adding a few personal touches, like the X-Bench and an apothecary cabinet for additional storage.

The space was finished just in time for “The Style It Challenge,” (literally) with precious few minutes to spare. As our photographer extraordinaire, Christina Wedge was waiting patiently, Mr. B. was hanging a stunning chandelier, until I walked in and hit my head. Which meant having to take it down and make it into a semi-flush mount. Everything and I mean everything was down to the wire, the final touch? Bringing in the X-bench and placing it next to our brand new Kohler standalone tub. As a Design Blogger and Tastemaker, I look for pieces that are multi-functional in a bathroom. This versatile stunner goes from bath-side to shower-side, and is the perfect spot to throw a towel, or as a valet where I can lay out my wardrobe choices for the day. You can purchase my custom X-Bench by following the link here One Kings Lane. Oh and did I mention that it was a challenge? So there will be a winner…will it be me or one of the other fabulous talents? Stay tuned. Don’t forget to check out One Kings Lane and find out how you can purchase the X-Bench and see all the fabulous rooms styled by all the other Bloggers featured. A special thanks to Julianne Taylor of Taylor Burke Home, Mary Catherine Folmar of Cotton & Quill and One Kings Lane it was an incredible honour to work with all of you. I do want to mention that all the bath fixtures, tub, faucet risers, faucets, mirrors, sconces & custom cabinets are all courtesy of Kohler, (I’ll be sharing the entire bathroom this week).

I did receive the X-Bench to participate in the challenge, but all opinions and musings are 100% my own.
