There is one thing I believe, that every room deserves one iconic piece of furniture. A piece of “furniture art” that is to be cherished and passed down through generations, remaining relevant regardless of time and place. And this is certainly true of furniture from the Modernist era which has become certified works of art. Forever changing the face of furniture design.

The Modernism era took place beginning in the late 19th century, designs limited only by the imagination. Then with the introduction of mass production and new techniques, the Modernism movement has continued to evolve. Giving birth to new designs, shapes, and an impressive fusion of materials. One of our recent favorites is the Beetle Chair, the creation of Enrico Fratesi and Stine Gam.

“There is one thing I believe, that every home deserves one iconic piece of furniture.”-  The Ace of Space

Designed in 2013 and presented at Milan’s annual Mindcraft exhibition, this chair is destined to join the ranks of the iconic furniture designs such as Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Chair and the Florence Knoll Sofa. Inspired by the shape, shell, and structure of the eponymous insect, the Beetle Chair reinterprets the characteristic elements of the beetle’s body. Perfectly linked, rigid on the outside and soft within, the ideal marriage between comfort and functionality.

The Beetle Chair continues its mercurial rise showing up on the glossy pages of the most prestigious shelter magazines and featured in the room designs of contemporary design talent. So read on to find out why The Beetle Chair is the subject of this week’s “Icons of Style.”
