A while back I had an idea (dangerous I know) to share design news with my readers and the community. As a design blogger and writer, I receive a lot of press releases, product launch information, and juicy tidbits passed along to me in a conversation. What’s a little harmless gossip amongst friends? So I decided to share it on a weekly basis. The Ace of Space’s web designer is in the process of making it look all nice and pretty and eventually in the next few weeks I will launch the new page. So until then I wanted to make the announcement and also make today the first day of “The Design 10.” For now it will be the Top 10 design related happenings, but it will grow. In the next few months, we’ll share the information via a video series and have the occasional guest join us. More details coming soon.

So if you have design news to share or suggestions pass it along, it just might end up in a feature. For now here’s the latest in this weeks The Design 10.

THE DESIGN 10

1. Ken Fulk for Pottery Barn– Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Brilliant move. Fulk known for creating fanciful interiors and magical events has brought his creative genius to this box store. Set against emerald malachite wallpaper spread out over several pages, Fulk designed and curated wares that not only make us love green but want to spend it too. Given new life by Ken Fulk, it’s one catalog that I think I’ll keep around for awhile. www.potterybarn.com

2. Insta-Love. Are you following Lynne Knowlton’s IG account (@lynneknowlton)? Then you should. Not only does Knowlton, an accomplished designer, add witty repartee to her photos (move over Brian Patrick Flynn), but I think she’s made us all want an Airstream trailer. Her recent renovation of an “American Classic” made me want to ditch the five-star hotels and travel across the US of A from the comfort of my own custom designed “pull-behind.”

3. That’s Hot. Yes, trends come and go, and then sometimes they just hang around for awhile and reinvent themselves. Remember lucky bamboo? That was one plant that just wouldn’t die…and neither did the trend of bamboo motifs. However, it’s re-emerging in design and fashion, more refined and sophisticated. Unlike “lucky bamboo,” you’ll actually want this trend to live in your home indefinitely.

4. The British Are Coming. Born and bred in Dorset, England-Farrow& Ball is the darling of the high-end paint industry (Think perennial favorite FB Elephant’s Breath-229).  This British company has introduced a new line of wallcoverings, inspired by the British countryside, “Autumn Collection” is perfect for any home. Just don’t forget to wipe your “wellies” at the door.

5. Brush Strokes. I’m not a huge art collector, due in part to the fact that we practically live in a glass house (windows with few walls sans stones). But, I love the artwork of Canadian Actress & Artist-Elisabetta Fantone. Her portraits are vivid depictions of iconic figures from Twiggy to the Beatles, and if “art imitates life,” then we are going to enjoy living it through the tip of her colorful paint brush.

6. Drum Roll Please (Where is “The Ace of Space” going to be in October?)-2015 marks the inaugural “High Point Market Design Bloggers Fall Tour.”Developed in partnership with Esteem Media and participating sponsors. I’m honored to announce that I was one of “today’s top bloggers” (I’m sincerely humbled) chosen to explore the home fashion event of the season-High Point Market. So check back often as I report back on trends & happenings. Use #designbloggerstour to follow us from October 17-22nd. 7. Picture of the Week-I heard collective gasps from around the world when the latest Elle Decor was delivered to our mailboxes. The “Picture of the Week” has to go to the dining room of Paris Fashion Star Andrew Gn’s Right Bank apartment. Actually, it’s a visual “toss up” because the photography by Bjorn Wallander is picture perfect. After reading the article, I’ve decided that I need to live in Paris, and also that I deserve an oversized bouquet of pink roses (delivered weekly) for my dining room console.

8. Good things come to those who wait. Tick tock. That’s the sound of the clock ticking in a countdown until the release of a new book by Douglas Friedman & Nick Voulgaris III. Who likes to wait? But Fall 2016 isn’t that far away is it? “This book will capture the essence of living by the sea in beautiful homes around the world.” The sea + beautiful homes = another “must have” book for our overflowing design libraries.

9. “I’ll Be Waiting”– At least until October 1st when CB2 releases the Lenny Kravitz collection. Featuring pillows, wall decor, rugs, and lights inspired by Kravitz’s travels. This multi-talented creative has expanded his brand far beyond his catchy ballads. I’ve long been a fan of his design aesthetic and I like the idea of spending time with Lenny Kravitz even if it’s with one of his pillows. CB2 will have us all living like rockstars.
