Getting Cagey…

This year is certainly exceeding my humble expectations, and it just goes to show that good things come to those who wait, and wait, and wait! Still so excited to have the honor of being one of the finalists for the “Best New Design Blog.” So if you haven’t cast your vote, please click on the badge in the column under “Places to find Me.” Your votes are so important not only to me, but the other nominees who work hard to bring you the latest and greatest from the world of Interior Design. Many thanks to all!

I’m definitely getting out of the holiday mindset, however, before I do I want to give a special shout out and thanks to all those who gave me tons of cookies, candy and chocolate in every conceivable shape and size and calorie count over Christmas. In fact, I met a client of a friend (Tom) of mine today whose husband is a prominent cardiologist, and Tom’s client was saying that everyone should have a stress test, purely for preventative purposes, but I told her that I was afraid that I would have  “Thin Mints” stuck in my arteries from all the years of succumbing to the pressure of buying Girl Scout Cookies from the children of my friends and neighbors. This year I steeled myself every time I went into my local grocery store and saw the Girl Scouts staking out the entrance.  Yup all you do is get on the cell phone, act like you are immersed in the most important conversation of your life and remember not to make any eye contact, what-so-ever. So far, total success. Any other year I would be taking 2 of each, but with a tropical cruise just weeks away, not going to do it. (Seriously I do support Girl Scouts, and it is cookie time, just not for me, because I’ve decided to lose what years of indulging has put on).

I put this picture in because these are the deer heads that I was going to buy to put in our mud room, to hang coats on (last weeks post). But, this is not our mudroom, its Tom’s house. If he wasn’t so stinking funny and just a plain hoot, I might be annoyed (now I’m just jealous), so Tom, I hope you are enjoying them, and please do not feel guilty!

Of course avoiding every Girl Scout within a 50 mile radius of my home wasn’t the only thing that kept me busy this week. I went to Scotts Antique Market like every other warm blooded designer in town, checked out some local antique shops, like Peachtree Battle (with my BFF Anya in town from Seattle), hit a few showrooms, and decided that I needed to get back to work. So off to work I went…

Okay this is a totally cool piece that I am considering for my new office, it’s partner style so I can meet with clients, plus I love the fact that it has casters so I can move it around the room…I can’t tell you where it is because I haven’t purchased it yet, and so right now I’m going to keep the location a closely guarded secret…its pretty amazing and versatile which is the perfect combo…

My friend Lisa (LisaLou Designs) has a space at Peachtree Battle Antiques, and her things are unique and stylish, plus I really dig the be-achy, vibe. Anything in driftwood or decorated with shells is always a home run as far as I’m concerned, and you can never go wrong working them into your interior. The mirror is just plain fab, could see it in a room full of crisp white upholstered furniture…she has the most amazing eye for style, and of course, I would like to mention that some of my fav pieces in our house came from some of her fabulous picks. P.S. If you live in Atlanta, she also has a space at “Paris on Ponce.”

Okay, I know I’m obsessed with anything Lucite. But, I absolutely think this piece belongs in my home. At first I thought the price tag said $560.00, but it was actually $5600.00. Time for new reading glasses, perhaps?  Hmmmaybe because I even mentioned it in this post, they’ll let me borrow it? Again, a winner from Peachtree Battle Antiques.

My 3rd obsession after Lucite and animal prints are mirrors. This one is mid-century modern, and is totally one if a kind, but it’s just to die for. It was actually a sculpture that someone made into a mirror, so hats off to you my friend, because it was a “brizilliant” idea. Again, it can be seen at Peachtree Battle Antiques.

Totally amazing set of “Pillar Planters.” If I had a large hallway, I could see these flanking the doors, spilling over with lush greenery (Live plants only please!!!). Located at Peachtree Battle Antiques.

Okay, I really don’t give in to many trends, but the one trend that I think is just crazy cool is caged lighting, because after the trend runs it course, you take the cage off and you still have an amazing light. Dorothy and I saw some fun lights at Scott’s Antique Market in Atlanta, and I wanted to share a few with you. We had a great time just strolling through and looking at all the amazing things that are on display from all over the country, but mostly we like to talk to the vendors because its a great way to find out what’s going on in the world of design, Anyone that knows me well is aware that I love vintage faux furs, so of course I tried on one that was so small I felt like I had the shoulders of a line-backer, but not being able to breath is a major consideration when buying any item of clothing. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really there to indulge myself and add to my collection, so maybe next time…

Dorothy and I saw this caged beauty at Scotts Antique Market in Atlanta.

This vintage crystal light will look just as great without the wire cage…I like the fact that  you could dress it either way…

This modern light with the glam shade is from shadesoflight.com. The sheer drum is just perfection, so if you ever get tired of the shade, voila’, you still have a stunner.

Who doesn’t absolutely adore anything from Serena and Lily http://serenaandlily.com. This Saigon Chandelier would definitely look as great in a loft as it would in a more rustic setting…would order it for our breakfast room, but I think Mr. B. would probably  make me ship it back before the UPS guy even had a chance to put it on our front steps (even with a few tears from moi). Since we cleaned out our garage he totally knows what I have hidden away, I mean stored

It was a fun week traveling around town, and seeing what’s new…I even took a moment to stop at the bookstore and buy a book that I have been dying to read, there are some books that are real page turners, of which, I wouldn’t even dream of reading on Kindle. So totally being a fan of Audrey Hepburn, this was a must.

She just defines style and grace, and several of my friends are just sick of me asking “What would Audrey Do?” all week long. She had me the first time I saw her as Holly Golightly in  “Breakfast At Tiffany’s.” The book is so worth the read.

One of my favorite lines from the book was in a section called “Have fun with it all.”

“Audrey was never afraid to have a little fun at her own expense. Connie Wald tells the story, “I remember once she stopped at Tiffany’s in L.A., and was going to San Francisco and ordered something and wanted to pick it up, and they said to her, ‘Have you any identification?’ And she smiled at them and said, ‘My face!’

So “have fun with it all”…and

Be amazing!
