As promised this post is devoted entirely to Project :: Master-bath and our collaboration with Kohler Company on their newly released Tailored Vanity Collection. Enter April of last year, and I was contacted by a P/R Firm and my buddy Josh to see if I would be interested in installing a bath cabinet in my home from Kohler’s Tailored Vanity Collection www.kohler.com. Absolutely. But we needed a double vanity, enter the “Superhero’s” from Kohler, I was told that wouldn’t be a problem. Then I mentioned that we were thinking about re-doing our entire bathroom, and a return e-mail included the question “What do you need?” And the rest is design history. (On a side note: you may remember a portion of our bathroom was featured on One Kings Lane last week, you can also see it on “The Style It Challenge” at onekingslane.com).
First, the thought process behind the design concept-I love to bring in unexpected elements, and I love the graining in wood. The hardest part was choosing the cabinet from the customizable Tailored Vanity Collection. I wanted a warm, rich wood, and I didn’t want white (all our bath cabinets are white). I craved something different. It was going to be luxe meets coastal, lots of chrome, with a standalone tub. Also, a chance to get rid of a very large floor to ceiling wall mirror that would have been more at home in the dressing room of a 1940’s Hollywood starlet.
So with a little of the backstory covered…on to the selections. I love modern, clean lines in the bath, so I chose 2-36″ cabinets from the Poplin Collection and added an optional bridge for additional storage. Since we were using honed Limestone flooring I opted for furniture legs to not only showcase the tile, but visually open up space. The finish is Woolen Oak a rich, deep wood-tone. We accessorized with modern chrome hardware, matching mirrors and flanked them with contemporary sconces from the Purist Collection. I love odd numbers so rather than four we opted for three which adds an element of interest without over-lighting the space (a pet-peeve). In bathroom design, there has always been a need for customizable vanities, another alternative to retrofitting pieces of furniture. Kohler has provided a brilliant albeit breath-taking solution with the ability to pick your style, finish, and hardware. I would share the pictures with you. So let me introduce you to our brand new bathroom, but first the “Before’s.”
So you asked, and I answered. Yes, I am sharing the “Befores.” The tile is now in a landfill…and I happily helped put it there. Please note that I did not have anything to do with the design of the original bathroom.

From the standalone tub to the incredible bath vanities our bathroom has the “bold-look” of Kohler. My second favorite feature is the wall paper from Fornasetti, and the lighting from AllModern (www.allmodern.com).

From the modern amenities provided by to the bath seating, this space is outfitted for pampering.

A dream of mine was to have a shower enclosure encased in Carerra marble, I did get my wish, but there were some concessions made. My dream came true, as did Mr. B.’s (in the form of honed limestone flooring). I also had an inset tiered niche added and a knee bench for convenience.

Another dream came true with the installation of my beloved Fornasetti wallpaper in Aquario, adding a whimsical element to our coastal meets luxe space.

This stately piece of fine porcelain is the focal point in our water closet. It’s from the Memoirs collection by Kohler.

I took this photo to showcase the wood grain on our cabinets from the Tailored Vanity Collection. If you look closely you can see tiny fingerprints from a pint-size member of our family.

Rich wood tones, premium hardware to a wide range of styles, colours and finishes make the Tailored Vanity Collection a true “show stealer.”

It’s all in the details.

One of the crown jewels of our bathroom the “Symbol” deck-mount bath-faucet with a diverter spout and hand-shower. Pure luxury, purely Kohler. What my husband doesn’t know (although he will now)- is that the installation required the contractor to install the risers from a hole in the living room ceiling, and it was so worth it.
As a side note: Although we did receive product, the opinions and musings are 100% my own. We would never endorse any product unless it meets our highest standards.
What will I be doing on Valentines Day? Well, soaking in my new tub, looking upon my brand new Tailored Vanities and sipping on a glass of Dom Perignon 2004. It was a very good year, and so is this one.
Until next time,
BE INSPIRED. BE AMAZED.
