I had to put this series on hold for a brief time last year due to the unexpected loss of a close member of our family. But, it’s a new year, a new start and time for new adventures. One of my resolutions this year is to bring more original work to my blog. I’m not a professional photographer (I could barely get through photography class, my camera has more buttons than my beloved vintage Chanel jacket), but hopefully I can capture the beauty of the spaces that I am privileged to have access to. I’m going to crawl through attics, storage rooms and peek into a few closets. Strange, perhaps. But, a designers storage room can rival that of the Geffrye Museum in London. I’m going to be interviewing people across the globe, and I have a stellar list of designers to interview who are  influencing the way we look at design. Unfortunately, some of these interviews will be taking place via Skype. I don’t think Mr. B. or the Fashionista are ready for me to become a seasoned world traveler in the name of design.

I was in Greenville, S.C. this weekend, bundled up in Ralph Lauren from head to toe (all Christmas gifts), Mr. B. did spoil  the moment briefly when he told me I looked like an over-paid stable hand. Hmm…do I spy a RL on  a large majority of his dress shirts? So while I trotted my riding boots up and down Main Street, I made a detour into one of my favorite shops, “Postcards From Paris”. Owned by Linda McDougald, I have seen this fabulous store evolve from an emporium of all things french & fabulous to a design studio with an exceptionally talented group of 10 designers, and a basement full of European antiques befitting an American castle of any size. The upper floor still houses a retail space selling upscale candles, china, and housewares, and I was graciously allowed access to the downstairs space which is closed to the public by a velvet rope. The latter is a perfect touch and an indication of what is yet to come. While her designs are certainly worthy of mention, I wanted to share the essence of “Postcards from Paris”, a place that transports us back to a time of old world elegance.

I love the contrast of the modern lines of the dual coffee tables paired with the ornate carving on the arms and legs of the antique settee.

A hallway ttransporting us to another world. The bench is absolutely divine, and of course mixing old and new creates a curated look. This vignette of furnishings and accessories would be perfect for an entryway.
