The Best of Loft Living :: Serenbe Designer Showhouse 2016

Nestled on the edge of Atlanta is a remarkable place surrounded by acres of preserved forest and miles of picturesque trails winding through pastoral meadows. Where life is slower and the air seems a little lighter. A bucolic utopia where people live, work, eat and play on quiet streets lined with impressively designed custom homes.

It’s all part of an “agritopia” called Serenbe, a 1000-acre community that integrates the lush Georgia countryside with a mixed-use development. The pedestrian-friendly village consists of  single family homes, a 25-acre organic farm, cultural events, quaint restaurants all integrated for a totally connected and self-sustaining community.

It was just a few weeks ago that I made a two-hour trek to Serenbe for the 3rd Annual Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Serenbe Designer Showhouse. Although I was visiting Serenbe for the opening reception of the Showhouse, I want to mention that the entire community is well worth a day trip (one that I gladly make several times a year).

This year the “Showhouse” is located in The Textile Lofts, the building itself drawing inspiration from the concept of a turn of the century textile mill. It was within the walls of hand laid brick that 15 Southern designers transformed indoor and outdoor spaces. From Cloth & Kinds custom wallpaper collaboration with California-based Paper Mills to the outdoor spaces transformed by Bjork Studio & Kolo collection into a fantasy of pattern & polychromasia!

The Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Showhouse is open through October 2. For more information about purchasing tickets, you can visit www.serenbeshowhouse.com and for those of you who can’t make the showhouse we are sharing plenty of design inspiration!

The hallway is designed by my friends, Jill & Steve McKenzie of Steve McKenzie’s. This dramatic space is defined by deliciously eclectic layers punctuated by Steve’s striking art and wallpaper from Mitchell Black.

The custom wallpaper was the result of a brilliant collaboration between Tami Ramsey & Krista Nye Nicholas of Cloth & Kind, and Papermills Inc. Inspired by the rich Southern landscape this one of a kind wallpaper also incorporates various geometric shapes taken from textiles that have inspired Tami & Krista.

Live plant material brings realism & organic beauty to this magnificent interpretation of the Southern landscape.

I’ve included the video which highlights the creative process between Cloth & Kind and Papermills, truly a work of “heart.”

The office was skillfully designed by Melanie Davis. Artful arrangements of objects on white walls provide striking focal points in this gorgeous space .

Dixon Rye’s Keeping room is the perfect place to enjoy a  glass of Bourbon (or wine) while lounging among layers of sophisticated textures and carefully curated artwork.

A room is defined by details, including the playful fringe trimming the base of this sumptuous velvet sofa.

The great room is elegantly attired in rich green velvet sofas, “objets d’ art,” and artful arrangements. A study in relaxed elegance & sophistication.

A kitchen can be a work of art, and this aptly describes this stylishly appointed kitchen. From the gold wire fixtures (which I loved) to the juxtaposition of wood tones.

The brass bed is the obvious showstopper in this bedroom, a restful retreat with a sense of updated history.

The addition of a bold paisley print against the crisp white linens equals classic & timeless design.

Contemporary artwork plays perfectly against more traditional elements. I love rooms with a sense of layered history…

This outdoor space by Bjork Studio & Kolo Collection is a fantasy of pattern and polychromasia. A delightful riff on Palm Beach chic.

After the Showhouse, you can grab breakfast or lunch at the Blue Eyed Daisy. Wander through miles of trails or visit the Farm. Or for the ultimate experience stay at the 4-star Serenbe Inn and Spa. There are endless things to do at Serenbe, and it’s the perfect fall getaway! For more information visit www.serenbe.com
