Now that Mercury is officially in “retrograde”, (and honestly I’ve never given it a second thought in the past), I would say that I am a true believer after yesterday. It started with a strange phone call in the morning from Waco, Texas (should have been my first clue). I picked up the phone (first mistake). The first question, “Do you do home staging?,” Me: “It depends on the project…etc…” The Reply: “Well I have a house and we need it staged to sell…” Me: “Okay, what size is the house? Let’s just call him “Clueless Guy” (CG): “I don’t know four thousand to fourteen thousand square feet, I’m not really sure.” My internal dialogue: You don’t know how big your house is? Really? Dude, that’s a ten thousand square foot difference. Are you counting your backyard too? After a few more questions including asking him how much furniture he had, (CG): “I don’t have any,” Me: “You don’t have any?,” (CG): “Nope…but my wife follows your blog and saw some pics of your house, and I wasn’t sure if you let people borrow your furniture for staging?” Okay, seriously am I being punked?”. Although, Mr. B’s first question was, “How much was he willing to pay?”. The rest of the conversation with Clueless Guy isn’t worth repeating, although I will say I was surprisingly polite. This was followed by a random e-mail from a fan in Thailand, who wondered if she could come over and meet me. She also reads the blog, and wanted to see if I would pay for her airfare to fly to the good ole US of A, so that she could meet “The Ace of Space.” She would be more than happy to work for me to pay for the airfare, I clearly see the INS in my future. The day got better. Mr. B comes home sick (let’s be honest we all know what sick men are like. I now have two children in the house). So in between the frequent trips up the stairs to fill up his water glass, (he thought he had a fever), it was in fact 98.4, but I can act sympathetic, I mean really act. Then I forgot to close the windows in the car (in the hot Atlanta sun), and I had just bought cupcakes for the Fashionista’s Riding School, needless to say they turned back into batter including the icing, and believe me the icing is so good you’d want to wash your hair in it. Thanks, Mercury.
Anyway, this post may seem a little random (because it is), but I have passed so many old barns this week on the way to the Fashionista’s Riding Camp that I just wanted to share the beauty of some of the last standing relics of an era that has long since passed, and the true definition of Americana.
“America the Beautiful” the flag still stands proud…this was on our way to Horse Camp, and may have involved stepping over a small body of water more than likely filled with alligators, and poisonous snakes (alright I’ll admit maybe it was just a few harmless bull frogs).
The road less traveled, a back road in the country. It had just rained and I want to give a shout out to the inventor of four-wheel drive.
On a lonely deserted country road, this weathered structure is pure rustic beauty. There may have been a little harmless trespassing involved, but payback came when I opened the door a little and buzzards came flying out a la Alfred Hitchcock.
This is “Lady in Red” is located in Upstate NY near my childhood home…
Still standing…
The perfect day, and a tribute to the ole red, white and blue.
Just another beautiful day in the country, one of the barns on the property where the Fashionista rides. I told them to call me if they ever decide to tear it down. It would be a shame to let all that weathered wood go to waste, I’m sure Mr. B. would understand, after all we do have a garage.
Now someone definitely has a sense of style on this farm, a old door painted in a modern chevron pattern. I suppose this would be considered a designer barn…
